YouTube Music is turning up the volume on song discovery with two exciting new features!
Announced on Monday, the platform is testing an AI-generated conversational radio feature and rolling out a Shazam-like tool to help users identify songs by singing, humming, or playing parts of them.
First up, the AI-generated conversational radio feature is being tested with select Premium users in the United States. Imagine creating a custom radio station just by describing what you want to hear! Fancy some “catchy pop choruses” or “upbeat pop anthems”? Just ask, and YouTube Music will deliver. This feature is similar to AI playlist generation tools being tested by Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer, making it the latest trend in personalised music experiences.

Users who have access will notice a new “Ask for music any way you like” card in their app’s home feed. Clicking on it opens a conversational UI where you can enter a custom prompt or select a suggested one.
While currently available to a limited audience, YouTube plans to expand access soon.
Next, YouTube Music is upping its game with a new song recognition feature. Move over, Shazam! Now, when you tap “search” in the YouTube Music app, you’ll see a waveform icon. This nifty tool lets you find the name of a song by singing, humming, or playing it. Unlike Shazam, which requires the actual song to be played, YouTube Music’s tool is more versatile, making it easier than ever to identify that catchy tune stuck in your head.
Initially available to select Android users, this song detection tool is now rolling out to all users across iOS and Android.
So, get ready to discover your next favourite song with YouTube Music’s innovative new features.
