YouTube is stepping up its game with a suite of AI-powered tools designed to make content creation a breeze.
Announced at the Made on YouTube event in New York City, these features could change the way creators make videos and the types of videos they produce.
First up is the new Inspiration tab in the YouTube Studio app. This nifty tool suggests video concepts, provides titles, thumbnails, and even writes outlines and the first few lines of your video. It’s like having a brainstorming buddy that’s always on point. Imagine AI-generated ideas that are tailor-made to game the YouTube algorithm – sounds like a dream, right?
Once you’ve got your AI-inspired idea, you can create AI videos with Veo, a powerful DeepMind video model now integrated into YouTube Shorts. Veo will be a core part of the “Dream Screen” feature, offering AI-generated backgrounds to spice up your videos. You can also create full Veo videos, but only up to six seconds long – any longer, and things get a bit... weird.

Sarah Ali, YouTube’s director of product management, explains that Veo integrates seamlessly into the normal Shorts editor, making it feel like footage from your camera roll. However, it’s still up to the creator to bring the vision together. Plus, all AI-generated clips will be watermarked with DeepMind’s SynthID tool, ensuring transparency.
These features will roll out gradually, appearing to creators late this year or early next. But that’s not all – YouTube is also expanding its auto-dubbing feature to more creators and languages, and introducing AI tools for fan interaction in the new Communities section of the app.
While these tools offer exciting possibilities, there’s a chance YouTube could be flooded with AI-conceived, AI-written, and AI-produced videos that all feel a bit samey. Each creator will need to decide whether to use these tools for innovation or shortcuts. But one thing’s for sure: YouTube is making it easier than ever to become a creator, especially as it competes with TikTok and Instagram. AI might just be the secret sauce to get creators to produce even more content.
