Awwwww, look at the little guys playing football!
Having coached to under-11 level, there are some very familiar moves evident here - though the swiftness with which the machines get up after falling over (and lack of complaint / tears / parental demands for retribution) are refreshing and certainly help keep the game flowing.
So is this the future of sport? Are we humans actually going to become so lazy that we can't even be bothered to show up on a freezing cold, wet, windy Sunday and shiver about a bit chasing a muddy ball, when we can get the machines to do it instead?
It's certainly interesting to see that eSports are becoming bigger, with prizes in the millions for those that can master Rocket League, Fortnite, FC24 (new name for FIFA, keep up) and Tekken 8 (yup, we're up to there now). It's also not too much of a stretch, when sports' franchises that were made up in 2022 can be sold for hundreds of millions, to imagine a future of super-pumped (and super-sponsored) robot-on-robot rugby squads and hockey teams, slugging it out for our entertainment.
One thing I think it's certainly safe to say - future versions of TV series Robot Wars are likely to be somewhat different ...
