The latest research shows a growing number of UK homes hitting the market with impressive energy performance certificate (EPC) ratings. In 2024, a whopping 60% of homes boasted an EPC rating of C or above, as eco-awareness takes centre stage for buyers, tenants, and housebuilders alike.
Data whizzes at epIMS crunched the numbers for homes sold, let, or built in England and Wales from late 2023 to late 2024. Their findings? A 1.6% increase in homes with top-notch EPC ratings compared to the previous year. London leads the green charge with a dazzling 64% of homes achieving a C rating or above, followed by the North East, South East, North West, and East of England.
Yorkshire and Humber saw the most significant leap, with a 3.9% increase in green-rated homes. Meanwhile, the East and West Midlands and the East of England also showed impressive gains.

Craig Cooper from epIMS applauds the growing awareness of EPC ratings, noting that understanding a home's energy efficiency can impact both the planet and your wallet. However, he warns that an EPC rating alone doesn't tell the whole story. For instance, air source heat pumps are eco-friendly but don't boost the EPC rating as much as a snazzy gas boiler.
To truly grasp a home's energy efficiency, Craig suggests delving deeper into the EPC score. By understanding how those numerical points add up, you'll get a clearer picture of your home's energy performance and the steps needed to improve it.
