OpenAI has just launched a game-changing interface for ChatGPT called "canvas," perfect for writing and coding enthusiasts.

This nifty feature opens a separate workspace alongside the usual chat window, allowing users to generate and edit writing or code directly within it. Currently, it's rolling out in beta for ChatGPT Plus and Teams users, with Enterprise and Edu users getting access next week.

Canvas is OpenAI’s answer to the growing trend of editable AI workspaces, similar to Anthropic’s Artifacts and the popular coding tool, Cursor. It’s designed to make collaborating with ChatGPT more intuitive, especially for complex tasks. Users can now tweak AI-generated content without starting from scratch—simply highlight a section and make adjustments.

In a demo, OpenAI’s Daniel Levine showcased how canvas can help draft an email. Users can adjust the length, tone, or even add emojis with a simple toggle or command. For coding, canvas offers features like in-line documentation and a “review code” button to suggest edits or fix bugs automatically.

Once out of beta, OpenAI plans to make canvas available to free users too. So, whether you’re crafting the perfect email or debugging code, canvas is set to make your AI interactions smoother and more productive.
