Microsoft is jazzing up its AI game with the relaunch of Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, a free and secure AI chat tool designed to woo businesses.

This new iteration includes AI agents that act like virtual colleagues, ready to tackle tasks like monitoring emails or automating workflows. The idea is to get businesses so hooked that they'll opt for the full Microsoft 365 Copilot experience at $30 a month.

Jared Spataro, Microsoft's AI marketing guru, touts Copilot Chat as a GPT-powered marvel that outshines competitors like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. The chat interface now includes access to Copilot AI agents, previously exclusive to the full Copilot package. These agents can be customised using Copilot Studio and are priced via Azure’s pay-as-you-go or through consumption packs.

The pricing scheme, while a bit intricate, boils down to message-based costs. Simple answers cost 1 cent, while more complex tasks involving Microsoft Graph data cost 30 cents. Microsoft hopes businesses will see the value and transition to the full Copilot suite.

Despite a convoluted naming journey, Copilot Chat has already attracted a loyal user base. Microsoft is banking on this tool to convert even more businesses to their AI ecosystem, proving that AI can be both practical and delightful in the workplace.
