Norwegian startup 1X is set to test its humanoid robot, Neo Gamma, in "a few hundred to a few thousand" homes by the end of 2025.

According to CEO Bernt Børnich, these early adopters will help Neo Gamma learn the ropes of domestic life, creating valuable data for 1X's AI development.

The buzz around home-based humanoid robots is reaching new heights, with 1X's competitor, Figure, planning similar tests. Even OpenAI, an investor in 1X, is reportedly eyeing the humanoid robot market. But let's face it, putting robots in homes is a bit like sending robotaxis onto the streets—exciting, yet fraught with challenges.

Neo Gamma isn't quite ready to go solo just yet. While it can walk and balance using AI, full autonomy is still a work in progress. For now, teleoperators will remotely guide Neo Gamma, ensuring it doesn't take a tumble during its domestic debut. These tests will help 1X refine its AI models and enhance Neo Gamma's capabilities.

Privacy concerns are inevitable when robots roam your living room, but 1X assures users they can control when employees access Neo Gamma’s cameras and sensors. Unveiled in February, Neo Gamma boasts an improved AI model and a nifty nylon body suit to prevent accidental bumps and bruises.

While Neo Gamma's early adopter programme details remain under wraps, and its go-to-market strategy is still a mystery, the future of humanoid robots in homes is inching closer. So, gear up for a future where robots might just be your new housemates!
