Google's Android and Hardware Unite for AI

Google is shaking things up, and it's all about AI.

The tech giant has announced significant internal reorganisations, including the creation of a new team called "Platforms and Devices". This team will oversee all of Google's Pixel products, Android, Chrome, ChromeOS, Photos, and more.

The man at the helm? Rick Osterloh, previously the SVP of devices and services, overseeing all of Google's hardware efforts. The reason behind this massive change? AI, of course. Osterloh believes that consolidating teams will allow for full-stack innovation when necessary, citing the Pixel camera as an example of how AI has completely transformed user experience.

This change allows Google to integrate AI across all its products faster. It's clear that Google is pressing harder into its role as the tip of the spear for Android, especially as AI takes over the operating system.

This reorganisation is part of an ongoing cycle at Google, a company known for its sprawling, largely autonomous working environment. Every now and then, it makes an effort to consolidate around bigger initiatives. This time, it's all about AI.

So, what's next for Google? Osterloh's plan is to make everything faster, update Google's devices more often as AI models improve, and launch new products nimbly. As Google attempts to reinvent itself around AI, it's clear that the company, its structure, and its very culture are set to change. The future of Google is AI, and there's no time to waste.
