Google's AI Search Summaries Get a Commercial Twist

Hold onto your hats, folks! Google is spicing up its AI search summaries with a dash of commerce.


Now, when you seek advice on Google, you might just find some handy product suggestions tucked under a “sponsored” header. Imagine searching for grass stain solutions and getting product tips right alongside your AI-generated advice. Handy, right?


This advertising addition is part of Google’s strategy to connect users with businesses and products at the perfect moment. But fear not, these ads only pop up if your query has a “commercial angle.” So, your search for the best cat memes remains blissfully ad-free.

For now, this feature is rolling out on mobile in the US, but who knows where it might pop up next? Microsoft’s Copilot chatbot is already in on the ad action, so it seems like the trend is catching on.


Google’s also jazzing up the look of its AI Overviews. After some testing, cited webpages will now shine brighter on the right side, boosting traffic to those all-important supporting sites.


And there’s more! Google’s rolling out AI-organized search pages for recipes and meal ideas, offering a custom results page instead of the usual link list. Bon appétit to all the foodies out there browsing on mobile in the US!
