Google is stepping up its game in emergency communication by partnering with RapidSOS to enable 911 contact through Rich Communication Services (RCS).
This exciting new feature will be rolled out this winter, specifically targeting areas where text-to-911 services are not currently available. Initially, it will be exclusive to Google Messages users.
This collaboration is a game-changer for emergency services. According to AccesSOS, only 54% of 911 call centres in the U.S. offer text-to-911 capabilities. Google's new feature aims to fill this gap, providing a lifeline for users in areas where traditional call or text options fall short.

Elmar Weber, GM of Android Business Communications, highlighted the significance of this development, stating, "Emergency texting with RCS in Google Messages will bring critical safety communications capabilities previously unavailable to users when they need it most." The goal is to make RCS the standard for emergency services texting everywhere, inviting the entire ecosystem to join in providing reliable emergency messaging.
But that's not all! The RCS feature also allows users to confirm the delivery of their messages and check if first responders are actively responding. Android’s emergency location services will further enhance this by providing accurate location data, device language, and opt-in medical information to emergency responders.
