According to Tom Warren's recent report via The Verge, Microsoft’s Copilot AI is set to revolutionise the way users interact with OneNote, especially for those with less-than-perfect handwriting.
Now in beta testing, this innovative feature can read and analyse handwritten notes, making it a breeze for users to jot down ideas with a stylus or scribble to-do lists.
Imagine writing a paragraph by hand and having Copilot not only convert it to text but also enhance its readability and even add a touch of joviality. It’s akin to having a personal assistant who understands even the messiest of handwriting! This upgrade will soon be available to existing Copilot for Microsoft 365 subscribers and Copilot Pro users.

Tom tested the feature and found it genuinely impressive. Copilot managed to decipher his handwriting, summarise notes, and even generate to-do lists. It’s a game-changer for anyone who uses OneNote to keep track of their thoughts.
However, the question remains about how Copilot will handle truly terrible handwriting. While Copilot handles most scribbles with ease, it remains to be seen how it fares against the worst of the worst. Samsung’s Galaxy AI has a similar feature but often struggles with exceptionally messy handwriting (apologies, Allison!).
For those eager to test Copilot’s handwritten note recognition, it is necessary to be a Microsoft 365 Insider running the latest OneNote on Windows build (17628.20006 or later) and have a Copilot Pro or Copilot for Microsoft 365 subscription.
So, prepare to transform handwritten chaos into organised text with the magic of AI. Happy note-taking!
