Wave goodbye to hold music and awkward phone calls! Google is testing a snazzy new feature called "Ask for Me" that uses AI to ring up local businesses and gather info on services and pricing for you.

Perfect for those who'd rather not chat with strangers, this feature is currently available to adventurous users who've opted into Google’s Search Labs experiments.

Whether you need an oil change or a fresh set of nails, just search for local services like “nail salons nearby,” and you’ll spot the “Ask for me” button. Enter details about what you need, like “tire replacement” or “french manicure,” and Google’s AI will do the dialing. It’ll then send you a neat summary of prices and availability, freeing you from the tyranny of the telephone.

This clever tool follows last year’s “Talk to a Live Rep” feature, which also saved users from endless hold times by connecting them directly to live representatives. It’s all part of Google’s grand plan to save us time and sanity when dealing with businesses.

And if you’re keen on more AI magic, check out Google’s “Daily Listen” for a personalised audio news feed. With these tools, Google’s making sure you spend less time on the horn and more time doing what you love.
