Amazon Supercharges Shopping with AI Tools

Amazon is revolutionising the shopping experience with a suite of generative AI tools, unveiled at the Amazon Accelerate event.

These innovations aim to make shopping smoother for customers and more efficient for sellers.

First up, Amazon is introducing personalised product recommendations on its homepage. Unlike the “more like this” feature, these recommendations will be broader, based on your preferences, search, browsing, and purchase history. Imagine getting tailored suggestions for holiday events or sporting activities, all thanks to a large language model that understands your shopping habits. Plus, product descriptions will now highlight terms like “gluten-free” more prominently if that’s your jam!

For third-party sellers, Amazon is rolling out a free AI video generator. This nifty tool creates video clips from product images and features, making video marketing more accessible and cost-effective. A study by Wyzowl found that 89% of consumers want to see more videos from brands, so this is a game-changer.

But wait, there’s more! Amazon is also adding a live image feature to its image generator, allowing sellers to animate still images. Picture steam rising from a mug or a breeze making plants sway—these dynamic visuals are now in beta for select US advertisers.

Enter “Project Amelia,” a chatbot designed to assist third-party sellers with personalised recommendations, insights, and troubleshooting. Ask Amelia how your business is doing, and you’ll get a summary of sales data, website traffic, and performance comparisons. Currently in beta for a small group of US retailers, it’s set to expand soon.

These updates mark a significant leap for Amazon, which has been playing catch-up with industry giants like Meta and Google. Interestingly, Amazon will use Anthropic’s Claude AI to power upcoming Alexa improvements, after finding its own AWS models fell short.

Stay tuned as these AI advancements roll out, making your Amazon experience smarter and more personalised!
