Amazon's New AI Video Generator

Amazon has jumped on the AI bandwagon with its latest tool, Video Generator, unveiled at the Accelerate conference.

This nifty gadget transforms a single product image into a snazzy video showcase. But hold your horses, it’s only available for advertisers right now and is a bit limited in its capabilities.

The Video Generator, currently in beta for select U.S. advertisers, promises to create "custom" AI-generated videos that highlight a product's features at no extra cost. Amazon claims these videos leverage its unique retail insights to bring product stories to life in a way that resonates with customers. Fancy, right?

Jay Richman, VP of Amazon Ads, is pretty excited about it. He says the tool will inspire creativity and deliver more value for both advertisers and shoppers. The tool is set to be fine-tuned over the next few months before a wider release.

Another cool feature announced is the live image, which generates short, animated GIFs from a still frame. This is part of Amazon’s AI-powered image generation suite for marketers and is also in limited beta.

So, what can you expect from the Video Generator? The clips are 6-9 seconds long, at 720p resolution, and take up to five minutes to create. Users get four variations to choose from, featuring two scenes with headlines, background music, and a call to action. You can even customise the font, soundtrack, and brand logo.

Amazon’s move into generative video comes as other tech giants like Google and Adobe are rolling out their own video-generating tools. However, as with all generative AI systems, there are risks, especially around copyright issues. Amazon has stated it will protect customers accused of violating copyright with media generated by its models.

In any case, generative AI is set to shake up the film and television industry. A study predicts that by 2026, over 100,000 U.S.-based entertainment jobs could be disrupted by this technology. So, buckle up, folks – the future of advertising and entertainment is about to get a whole lot more interesting!
