Adobe's New Tool: Artists' AI Shield

Image: Adobe

Adobe has unveiled a nifty new tool to guard your masterpieces against the AI invasion.

Introducing the Content Authenticity web app—a free, centralised hub that allows you to slap on attribution and 'do not train' tags to your images, videos, and audio works. It's like giving your art a protective shield, ensuring it gets the credit it deserves and stays out of AI training sessions, unless you say otherwise.

This app is a part of Adobe's Content Credentials system, which acts like a digital nutrition label for your creations. It embeds tamper-evident metadata, so everyone knows who the genius behind the work is. Plus, it integrates seamlessly with Adobe's Firefly AI models, Photoshop, Lightroom, and more. But the magic doesn't stop there! You can use it on any file type, whether or not it was crafted in Adobe's creative playground.

Now, here's the juicy bit: Adobe's app lets you set preferences to keep your work out of the hands of AI models. While Adobe's own models play nice, only training on licensed or public domain content, this tool aims to extend these protections to other companies' models—provided they join the party. Currently, Spawning, the brains behind the "Have I Been Trained?" tool, is on board, with Adobe pushing for more industry-wide support.

And for those pesky websites that don't show Content Credentials, Adobe's got you covered with an inspect tool and a snazzy Chrome extension. Launching in public beta in early 2025, this app is free for anyone with an Adobe account. So, gear up, creatives, and let Adobe help you reclaim control over your digital domain!
